Trojan Athletes in Action!

The Library and Trojan Athletics and Recreation department have collaborated on a pictorial display which highlights the tremendous athleticism of  our Trojan sport teams.

Team sports are the heart of most school athletic programs and these images illustrate how extremely agile and powerful these Trojan warriors are.

From October 16 to November 13, photographs of some of our best student athletes will be on display in Library.

Feel free to stop by and see this spectacular exhibition!

Did you know ...

That in 1973, SAIT produced the world's largest cake?

The Culinary Arts program at SAIT is famous for producing some of the world's top chefs.  But did you know that SAIT also produced one of the world's largest cakes?  In 1973, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) celebrated its Centennial and wanted to commemorate the occasion by having a special cake made.  Not just any cake, this one had to be large enough to hold 100 candles and be served to hundreds of guests.  The RCMP also wanted the cake to be a first class, artistic, Western Canadian creation.  Wanting the project to be handled by a reputable team of experts, the RCMP contacted SAIT, who agreed to take on the challenge.

The cake was baked in Edmonton and shipped to Calgary where SAIT employee and project supervisor Werner Kohl took on the gargantuan task of assembling and decorating the cake. The project took six weeks from start to finish.  Once completed the cake, a medium-rich dark fruit cake, stood 20 feet high and weighed 15 tons (30,000 pounds); held together by a 1200 pound aluminum skeleton.  The cake was covered with 1500 pounds of royal icing, 6,000 handmade sugar roses, 216 sugar covered panels and a crown, and was so large that a tank carrier had to be used to bring it to the Big Four building where it was to be on display during the Calgary Stampede.
