Did you know ...

The recently unveiled longcase clock in Heritage Hall has been a part of the main campus since it opened in 1922?

Originally installed in the principal's office in the 1920's, the SAIT master clock played a vital role on campus, acting as both a control for the ringing of the school bell and as the central clock to which all other clocks on campus were synchronized. For nearly four decades the clock would remain in service until it was placed into storage in the 1960's.

For nearly four decades the clock would remain in service until it was placed into storage in the 1960's. Here it would remain unused until it was rediscovered in the late 1970's by petroleum instructor Bert Ellison. The following decade, restoration of the iconic timepiece would be taken on by campus millwright Trevor Beatson (seen on the right), and in the fall of 1989 restorations were completed and the SAIT master clock was placed on display in Heritage Hall.

Seen for only a few brief years, the clock would be returned to storage in the late 1990's to keep it safe during the major Heritage Hall restoration project taking place at the time. However, this would not be the final fate for the longcase clock.

This June, in cooperation with SAIT’s Alive, retired Dean of Transportation Blake Gordon and millwright Trevor Beatson revealed the nearly century old timepiece in the display case of Heritage Hall where it continues to faithfully tick away the seconds.
